Igor Stimac, the head coach of the Indian football team, has decided to exempt Captain Sunil Chhetri’ from the King’s Cup in Thailand. The veteran forward recently requested to be left out, and the boss appears to have agreed.
” These are friendly games, so I don’t see any reason not to let our skipper stay near his wife,” Stimac told RevSportz.
The King’s Cup is set to be played from September 7-10. The skipper however requested to be excused during that time to be closer to his family. This came after the dates is in line with his first child’s anticipated due date.

“I would request the coach not to include me in the King’s Cup squad,” Chhetri said in an interview. “I am really looking forward to being a father. And would like to stay back as the date is very close to the delivery date.”
The captain made the most magnificent announcement about his wife’s pregnancy. When he scored the game-winning goal against Vanuatu, he tucked the ball inside his jersey as a tribute to his wife. As a manner of informing fans of the pregnancy, the celebration has becoming more common in football matches around the world.
Stimac replied that there is no reason why the skipper should not be allowed to spend time with his family. The Croatian manager went on to say that this will be a wonderful opportunity to try out new players.
“We will use this opportunity to see a few players in the centre-forward position. He can join us on September 13 for the Asian Games.” Stimac added.

Sunil Chhetri, has been named head coach of the Indian men’s football squad for the Asian Games in 2023. He will be joined by Sandesh Jhingan and Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. The captain will also strive to rally his team to victory in the AFC Asian Cup 2023 and the FIFA Qualifiers.
