It’s Official! RCB part ways with Mike Hesson & Sanjay Bangar ahead of IPL 2024

Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar worked with RCB as director and coach respectively for four years

IPL 2024: After reports of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) not extending the tenures of Mike Hesson (RCB Director) and Sanjay Bangar (coach), it’s now official as RCB have parted ways with the two experienced duos. RCB shared the news on their Twitter account, thanking Hesson and Bangar for their commendable work with the franchise for over four years.

Taking into Twitter RCB gave a fitting caption and wrote, “We thank Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar for the commendable work during their stints as Director of Cricket Operations and head coach of RCB. Their professionalism and work ethics have always been held in high regard. A number of youngsters were given a platform to learn and succeed in the last four years.”

Hesson joined RCB as director in 2019 and has been instrumental in taking RCB to three successive playoffs. Bangar joined in 2021 as head coach and was instrumental in Virat Kohli getting back to form in IPL 2023 season. However, the trophy drought did not end, as RCB failed to reach the finals in two years.

After thanking Hesson and Bangar for their wonderful stints, RCB also announced Andy Flower as coach for IPL 2024 season. The former Zimbabwe player was with LSG as a coach for two years. However, LSG did not renew his contract and announced Justin Langar as the coach for IPL 2024 season. RCB CEO Prathmesh Mishra thanked Banger and Hesson and welcomed Flower to the RCB family.

On the occasion, Prathmesh Mishra, Chief Commercial Officer, Diageo India, and Chairman of RCB, said, “We would like to thank Mike Hesson and Sanjay Bangar for their excellent work in the past four seasons culminating in three play-offs. Their professionalism and work ethics have always been held in high regard. They leave us with a legacy of having given several young players the confidence to show their ability at the highest stage.

Flower comes with great coaching experience as he has coached England, and won PSL, The Hundred, and ILT20. The former Zimbabwe player was instrumental in England winning 2T0 WC in 2010. The Southpaw is excited to join RCB and is looking forward to working with the squad.
