Dream debut for Tilak Varma, MI wonder boy makes early case for T20 World Cup

Tilak Varma makes dream debut in India vs West Indies 1st T20I, makes case for himself for 2024 T20 World Cup

The future is here for India. Mumbai Indian’s wonderboy Tilak Varma made a spectacular debut for the Men in Blue as he goes on to move his case for the India squad for the ICC 2024 T20 World Cup. The destructive middle-order batter smashed 39 runs off just 22 balls to switch gears and put India in the driver’s seat.

Questions were raised about Tilak Varma’s inclusion in the team and now the Mumbai Indians youngster proved his doubters wrong by smashing 2 fours and 3 sizes. Such was Varma’s destructive outing that he batted with a devastating strike rate of 177.

Varma’s entry into the crease was much earlier than expected. After both Indian openers Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan departed early after scoring 3 and 6 runs respectively. Both MI middle-order batters Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav went to put up a strong partnership in the middle.

After his destructive outing, Varma has now put forward his case for his place in the T20 World Cup squad. It has been the plan for the Men in Blue that India plays the 2024 T20 World Cup with a rather young squad, headed by a young skipper, Hardik Pandya.

And now the inclusion of Tilak Varma in the squad will be a huge boost to the Indian team. The 20-year-old fiery batter caught everyone’s eye after he lit up IPL 2023 for the Mumbai Indians.

With the Indian cricket team already planning for the T20 World Cup, set to place next year, it is up to the selectors to set their priorities set and plan ahead. Whatever be the case, Tilak Varma’s inclusion in the squad will highly benefit the Men in Blue.
