SA20 2024 Player auction on 27th September, New rules to include rookie players

SA20 2024 Player Auction is set to be held on 27th September, New player rules and increased budget sets to excite fans

After a successful SA20 inaugural season in 2023, the player auction for the SA20 2024 season is all set to take place on 27th September in Johannesburg. Ahead of the auction, each of the participating 6 teams has been given a budget purse of 2.1 million USD to conduct their trade at the all-important auction.

The price budget for the teams has been increased to what it was the previous time. In the auction 21 player slots will be filled up out of which 6 slots have been reserved for the rookie players.

Each team will have a squad of 19 players where there has to be a minimum of 10 Proteas Players. Each team can have a maximum of 7 overseas or international players. As for the rookie players, each team will have to have at least one player.

Now who is a rookie player? Any South African player who hasn’t played SA20 before and is of 22 years and under of age.

“Season 2 of the Betway SA20 is shaping up to be another spectacular showcase of world-class cricket and entertainment,” Graeme Smith, the SA20 league commissioner, said in a press release. “The quality of the players already included in the squads, including a few newcomers, is testimony to the success of the inaugural season. Our planning is on track and we look forward to the auction and welcoming players and fans in Season 2.”
