Ajinkya Rahane has confirmed that he has decided not to continue his county cricket stint with Leicestershire. The Indian middle-order batter is keen to build on his fitness and prepare for the Indian domestic cricket season where he will represent the Mumbai Cricket Association. The red ball cricketer took to social media to deliver the message.

Ajinkya Rahane on Twitter posted, “The last 4 months have been gratifying and with the high intensity cricket that we have played it is now time to recuperate and recharge my body for the domestic season that lies ahead of us. Representing Mumbai @MumbaiCricAssoc at every stage possible has always been a matter of honour for me and I will be working hard on my fitness over the next 2 months to be at my best for the domestic season which starts in October. Hence I have decided to opt out of the planned county stint with Leicestershire and prepare for the Indian domestic season.
Leicestershire have been in regular touch with me and have been very understanding of the changing situation and I am hopeful of renewing my relationship with them in the future.“
Ajinkya Rahane will not join English County side Leicestershire as planned earlier as he wants a break from cricket after hectic international engagements, the club said. The 35-year-old Rahane was to join the County in June but his arrival was pushed back due to increased international commitments.

He flew straight to England after the IPL for the World Test Championship final. He then went to the West Indies as part of the India Test team. The club said with those involvements previously not factored into his schedule, Rahane has now expressed his desire to take a break from cricket during August and September, meaning he will not feature for Leicestershire as planned.
“Firstly, we are fully understanding of Ajinkya’s situation. He has experienced a hectic schedule in recent months, both in India and travelling with the national team, and we accept his wishes to recover and spend some time with his family,” Director of Cricket Claude Henderson said in a statement issued by the club.
