Cristiano Ronaldo and his teammates needed at least one point to advance from Group C of the Arab Club Champions Cup. They drew 0-0 with Al-Shabab before destroying Monastir 4-1. The final test for Al-Nassr came against Egyptian team Zamalek.
Luis Castro picked a powerful starting lineup that included Marcelo Brozovic, Seko Fofana, Anderson Talisca, and Cristiano Ronaldo. Furthermore, Sadio Mane, who was just signed, was named to the bench (he came on as a replacement in the 46th minute).
Despite Al-Nassr’s talent, Zamalek scored the first goal in the 53rd minute. Ahmed Sayed calmly converted his penalty to give his team an unexpected lead.
For the majority of the second half, the Egyptian club defended well. With Al-Shabab having defeated Monastir, fans knew that if Al-Nassr could not produce an equaliser, the Knights of Najd would be ousted at the group stage.
Ghislain Konan crossed the ball into the area for Cristiano Ronaldo to wonderfully head into the back of the net just as time seemed to be running out. The dramatic 87th-minute equaliser by the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was enough to secure a 1-1 draw.
