WI Playing XI 1st T20I: Hope SITS OUT, McCoy returns as Windies seek REDEMPTION

With West Indies already out of World Cup 2023 contention, the team will see this series as a preparation for the T20 World Cup 2024.

West Indies Playing XI: A bruised and battered West Indies will look to bounce back against India in the 5-match T20I series starting from August 5 at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba, Trinidad. The hosts have recalled Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran for the series, who were not part of the ODI squad that lost 2-1 to India. Test skipper Shai Hope sits out for Johnson Charles, while Obed McCoy returns after recovering from injury.

No Oshane Thomas in 1st T20I

Pacer Oshane Thomas has not been included in Playing XI for first T20I. Thomas has been impressive in this format, taking 15 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 19.33 and an economy rate of 8.66 in 2023.

The West Indies batting will rely on Nicholas Pooran who has been in incredible form. Pooran is coming into this series after playing a title winning knock in the Major League Cricket (MLC) Final.

Shimron Hetmyer & Rovman Powell key finishers

Shimron Hetmyer, who had a quiet ODI series, will be eager to make an impact in T20 format. He along with skipper Rovman Powell will be crucial at death overs. The duo has skills and power to unleash in final overs and they will be eager to showcase that in the series against India.
