The names of the first players set to be drafted in the very first WBBL overseas draft have been released. These 5 names include the likes of the five international skippers of their respective nations. Harmanpreet Kaur, Chamari Athapaththu, Hayley Matthews, Sophie Devine, and Sune Luss will be drafted on 3rd September for the upcoming Women’s Big Bash League.
Earlier, the WBBL teams had the opportunity to recruit overseas players in private as per their plans. But now after the draft was introduced to the men league last year, the same is set to be used for the women’s league from this season. Sophie Devine and Harmanpreet Kaur are veterans in the league with both having won the Player of the Tournament award.

With World Cup fast approaching, ‘No decisions’ on Pakistan coaching staff yet
Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Sophie Devine will be the ones to be selected in the first round of the draft owing to both being platinum players. Melbourne Renegades can choose to retain Kaur along with Chamari Athapaththu and Hayley Matthews.
Every club is allowed to have just one retention pick as a result the renegades will have a tough choice in picking either of Kaur, Matthews or Athapaththu. Similarly, Scorchers can retain Sophie Devine.
