With World Cup fast approaching, ‘No decisions’ on Pakistan coaching staff yet

Currently Mickey Arthur is the Team Director for the Pakistani side, however his tenure started under the previous PCB Chairman Najam Sethi.

Zaka Ashraf, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has indicated that “no concrete decisions” have been made on the Pakistan’s coaching and management staff. With ICC ODI World Cup 2023 fast approaching, Men in Green would want a concrete plan to triumph in India and for that a reliable coaching staff is a must.

The former cricket team captain of Pakistan, Misbah-ul-Haq, would serve as the chairman of the PCB’s newly constituted management committee, according to PCB chair Ashraf in an interview with Cricket Pakistan.

“I don’t think it matters whether coaches are local or foreign, there’s no concrete decision on whether to change coaches as of now. I’ve created a committee headed by Misbah-ul-Haq. That committee will look at all cricketing matters and will consult any cricketers they want to be a part of it. When they give us their final analysis, I’ll get involved in the discussion and we’ll make a joint decision that is in the best interests of Pakistan cricket,” Ashraf said in the interview.

Grant Bradburn, who had previously been Pakistan’s fielding coach, was named head coach in May after Mickey Arthur was elected the nation’s team director in April. Rehan-ul-Haq has been selected manager of the national squad. He formerly served as general manager of Islamabad United for all eight seasons of the Pakistan Super League. During the six-month interim period that Najam Sethi served as PCB chairman, each of these appointments took place.

According to Ashraf, the cricket committee was established to monitor all important factors and recommendations for enhancing Pakistan cricket.

Even though the committee hasn’t met in person yet, Misbah has previously voiced his disapproval of certain of the coaching arrangements. He replaced Arthur as Pakistan’s head coach in 2019, calling the PCB’s pursuit of Arthur under Sethi a “slap on Pakistan cricket.”

According to rumors from insiders who have come out on the matter, two of Pakistan’s matches in the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023 may likely be rescheduled.

It is possible that the October 6 World Cup match versus the Netherlands will be moved to October 5 or another day. Originally slated for October 15, the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan (IND vs. PAK) game will now likely be played a day sooner on October 14.
