IND vs WI T20 Series: India is all set to face the West Indies in a 5-match T20I series ahead of the Asia Cup and World Cup 2023. India has made quite a few changes heading into the series. Seniors Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Mohammed Siraj have been rested. The team will be led by Hardik Pandya, and Surya Kumar Yadav will be his deputy. The Windies team will see Nicholas Pooran, Shimron Hetmyer, Oshane Thomas, and Shai Hope return. The match-up between these two teams has always favoured India, and despite many stars not featuring in the series, the Men in Blue will enter as favourites.

Insidesport

Both teams have faced each other 25 times, with India leading the head-to-head 17 to 7 and one match ending in no result. They have played 10 games in India; that matchup favours India more, and they lead by 8-2. The teams have played seven games in the Caribbean, which also sees India winning more as they lead the hosts 6-1. In neutral conditions, both sides have met eight times: the Windies have won four times, India three, and one game ended in no result.

Head-to-Head at the Brian Lara Stadium

The Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba has hosted just one international men’s match. Coincidentally, India and the West Indies faced each other in that game on July 29, 2022. India scored 190 runs in the first inning and eventually won the match by 68 runs.

Head-to-Head at the Providence Stadium

Similar to the Brian Lara Stadium, both teams have faced each other just once at the Providence Stadium. The match, which took place on August 6, 2019, saw India win comfortably by 7 wickets and with 5 balls to spare, chasing a target of 147.

Head-to-Head at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium

Both sides have faced each other six times at Lauderhill. The hosts lead the head-to-head by 3-2. Windies won 3 out of the first 4 games; with one match ending in a no-result. India, on the other hand, has won the last two games played here in 2022.

Players to look out for the IND vs WI T20 Series

  • Nicholas Pooran: Pooran was unavailable for ODIs against India. During that time, the southpaw played one of the greatest T20 innings of all time. Pooran made 137* (55) in the MLC 2023 Final and helped MI New York chase down 184 in just 16 overs. Pooran has a great T20 record, with a strike rate of 143.49 in 254 innings.
  • Romario Shepherd: Shepherd has shown his true batting potential off late. The bowling all-rounder has recently become a lower-order power-hitting all-rounder. In the 26 T20Is he has played for the West Indies, Shepherd has taken 22 wickets. He has made 286 runs while striking the ball at 159.77 and averaging 47.66.
  • Sanju Samson: The wicketkeeper batter has played just 17 games for India with an underwhelming record. Samson averages just 20 while striking the ball at 133 in T20Is. However, Samson made 362 runs at a strike rate of 153.39 and an average of 30 in IPL 2023. The batter could also find himself in the World Cup 2023 squad with a good run here.
  • Mukesh Kumar: The right-arm pacer has played just 33 T20 games and made his IPL debut earlier this year. His performance in the IPL wasn’t up to the mark, with just seven wickets in 10 matches. However, after impressing everyone in Tests and ODIs on the India tour of the West Indies, the Bengal pacer might find himself in the probable 15 for the ODI World Cup with a standout performance in the 5-match T20I series.
