Sanju Samson: Samson eyes one last chance to showcase his humongous potential
With no Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Rishabh Pant during the West Indies tour, Samson was hopeful of getting more chances in the ODIs. However, he was in for a rude shock when Suryakumar was preferred despite low returns in his last six ODIs. While BCCI secretary Jay Shah stated that there will be consistency in selection before the World Cup, it remains to be seen if Surya is persisted for the second ODI.
With only four more ODIs to be played before the ODI World Cup squad submission deadline on September 5, time is ticking for Samson. With Iyer, and Rahul likely to be back for Asia Cup, Samson would be desperate to get one chance. The wicketkeeper batter has only played 11 ODIs since making his debut in 2013. In those matches, the right-hand batter has shown he lot of promise by scoring 330 runs at an average of 66.
Samson’s average is the best in the current team. Apart from a good strike rate, the RR skipper also scores runs at a brisk strike rate of 104.76 which is fourth best amongst Indian players.
