Blues stalwart Sandesh Jhingan reflects on importance of longer camps

Sandesh Jhingan, defender for the Indian Football Team, has joined Sunil Chhetri and Igor Stimac in demanding a longer training camp before the AFC Asian Cup in 2023.

Indian Football team stalwart Sandesh Jhingan reflected upon the importance of longer camps ahead of AFC Asian Cup 2023. Earlier Head Coach Igor Stimac and Captain Sunil Chhetri had insisted on the longer camp. With India’s Asian games Draw and AFC World Cup 2026 Qualifiers draw revealed, the national team will need to be in best of form for the upcoming games.

“It’s challenging to switch to national team football within a day or two and expect immediate results against tough opponents. Personally, I have always supported longer camps, and the statistics prove their effectiveness.” Jhingan was quoted saying to Rev Sports.

Indian Football Team have been on an 11 games unbeaten run since 2023. In the process, they have secured three trophies including the Intercontinental Cup and SAFF Championship.

“In the last four years, we had long camps only twice, and we dominated all three tournaments, including the qualifiers. Longer camps make a significant difference and please the fans. Common sense dictates that longer preparation is beneficial for us.” Jhingan added.
