“Hopefully next year”, Novak Djokovic’s father hopes his son retires by end of 2024

Novak Djokovic's father Srdjan Djokovic hopes that his son retires from Tennis by the end of 2024. He expressed his wish while speaking on a special documentary titled Novak Djokovic - Untold Stories

Novak Djokovic is at that pre-retirement stage in his life. The 36-year old only has a few more years left in him in top-flight Tennis. Well aware of the fact, the Serbian’s father Srdjan Djokovic wants his son to end his career by the end of 2024.

Speaking on a special documentary titled “Novak Djokovic – Untold Stories, Srdjan Djokovic stated, “As far as my wishes for him go, he has already fulfilled them all seven-eight years ago. The rest is this amazing bonus.”

“Tennis is the only segment of his life, not his whole life. I expect him to be recognized for the things he will do after his career ends as well., which I hope will happen next year,” he added.

Srdjan Djokovic also elaborated on the the workload and the demands of the sport. “I think for sometime he should have stopped working on this extremely difficult job. It’s physically and mentally challenging and very demanding. With him being dedicated for 30 years and not taking his foot off the gas, there is not much for other things in life.”

Novak Djokovic much recently lost in the Wimbledon 2023 final. 20-year old Carlos Alcaraz beat him in the summit clash. With this loss, his 10-year unbeaten streak at the center court in Wimbledon came to an end.

After the loss, he has withdrawn from the upcoming Canada Open. The hard court tournment will serve as a precursor to the US Open. Novak Djokovic will make his return to the US Open this year. He missed the tournament in the last two years due to his non-vaccination status.
