IND vs PAK: The news of an alleged rescheduling of the India vs Pakistan ICC ODI World Cup 2023 clash from its original date of October 15 has been making the rounds on the internet. Amid this news, it is expected that Jay Shah, BCCI Secretary, will bring this topic up as well in the subcommittee meeting scheduled to be held on July 27. However, many would not know that the reason behind a rescheduling is due to the safety and security of players as well as fans. The all-important clash between the arch-rivals happens to coincide with the start of Navratri.
What is Navratri?
Navratri is a Hindu festival celebrated throughout the nation; however, the festival is celebrated the most in Gujarat. Nav means nine, while ratri means night, hence indicating the period of time that goes on to celebrate the victory of good over evil . Security Concerns over IND vs PAK clash
With thousands of fans coming in to watch the India vs Pakistan clash in the ODI World Cup 2023 and millions of people celebrating Navratri, it may prove to be a logistical nightmare for the security authorities in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
A top BCCI official, while talking to the Indian Express, stated that the BCCI has been advised by the security agencies not to hold a high-profile match like India vs Pakistan.
The BCCI official said, “We are mulling the options that we have and a decision will be taken soon.”
Jay Shah sent a letter on Tuesday, July 25, to state associations that are organising World Cup 2023 games, inviting them to a meeting on July 27 in New Delhi. With this new development, it is expected that the BCCI may inform the members of the match’s revised date due to security concerns for the India vs Pakistan clash in Ahmedabad.
“I feel it will be in the best interest of all concerned that we meet again to exchange notes and take stock of any issue which needs discussion and decision. Accordingly, you are hereby requested to attend a meeting of the World Cup hosting associations,” the letter sent to all state associations states.
