Bayern Munich vs Man City Live: Club Friendlies LIVE – BAY vs MCI LIVE – Bayern Munich face Manchester City in a pre-season friendly in Tokyo. Bayern will be seeking revenge for their humiliating defeat against Man City in the Champions League last season. Following a 3-0 defeat in the quarter-finals first leg match, Bayern ended the second leg 1-1 in their home. In fact, Bayern have not won any of their last four meetings with Man City. Hence, they will be determined to win this friendly ahead of the upcoming season.

It will be an understatement to say that Bayern Munich are dominating the German national league. They have been dominating for years now which is evident from their Bundesliga win last season. This was their 11th successive win. However, their win last season did not come easy. Borussia Dortmund fought them till the last matchweek to win the title, but they fell short and Bayern got away with the trophy. However, Bayern fell short in the Champions League and the aftereffect followed them in the dressing room.

Their elimination from the Champions League was followed by a bust-up between Sadio Mane and Leroy Sane. Thomas Tuchel still managed to help them win the Bundesliga after 2 months at the club. They have started preparing for that with a massive 27-0 win last Tuesday against ninth-tier side Rottach-Egern. Their next pre-season friendlies are set to become tougher as after taking on treble winners Man City, they will face Kawasaki, Liverpool, and Monaco before they face RB Leipzig on August 13 in DFL-Supercup.

Manchester City touched the peak of their success with the help of former Bayern Munich coach, Pep Guardiola at the helm. They won the Champions League six weeks ago and with that win, they wrote their name amongst the limited number of clubs to have won the treble. Still in a somewhat vacation mode, Man City have also started their match with a win like Bayern. They took on Yokohama F. Marinos on Sunday and won the match 5-3 against the J1 League club.

Man City’s sluggishness showed as they went 2-0 down winning 37 minutes into the game. However, they also pulled themselves back as two goals from Julian Alvarez and John Stones brought them back to life before the halftime break. Erling Haaland came forward to start right where he left last season, scoring his way through matches. He gave Man City the lead and Rodri ended the match with a goal of his own. They will now face Bayern and following, they’ll face Atletico Madrid in their last pre-season match.

Bayern Munich Team News

  • Bayern have a number of injury concerns even though the season is far from starting. Malik Tilman is suffering from a hamstring injury, Manuel Neuer is out with a broken leg, Tarek Buchmann is yet to join as he’s out with an unspecified issue, and Thomas Muller is yet to recover from his hip problem. Now, their new signing, Raphael Guerreiro has joined them with a muscle injury that he sustained during a training session.
  • Another player who has not travelled with the team for this match is Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting. He received a knock shortly after he was introduced in the field as a substitute in the second half during their match against Rottach-Egern. Hence, there is a chance that coach Tuchel could Serge Gnabry.
  • Marcel Sabitzer has left the club to join Borussia Dortmund on a permanent basis. Sadio Mane could follow him out of the club as he is mulling over the lucrative offer from Al Nassr. On the other hand, new arrival Kim Min-Jae could be getting his debut in the centre-back position in this match.

Manchester City Team News

  • Man City players are enjoying barring their all-important playmaker Kevin De Bruyne. He is yet to recover from his hamstring tear which he sustained during the Champions League final. Other than him, coach Guardiola has no injury concerns within his team.
  • After club captain Ilkay Gundogan left for Barcelona, the responsibility went on Kyle Walker’s shoulders. However, he has been linked with a move away to Bayern. In the midst of such confusion, he played the last match of their pre-season friendlies as the Man City captain. The coach has also confirmed that he will be available for this match as well.
  • After a non-competitive debut, new arrival Mateo Kovacic will expect to start the match. The coach could recall Aymeric La Porte and Ruben Dias in the starting XI. On the other hand, Erling Haaland will most probably replace Alvarez in the starting lineup. Whereas, Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, and Bernardo Silva will all compete to provide support in the final third.
