Inter Miami appears to be steadfast on signing Uruguay striker Luis Suarez. The MLS club has previously signed Lionel Messi and the Spanish combo of Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.
The desire of the Major League Soccer (MLS) club to reunite Suarez with his former Barcelona colleagues Messi, Busquets, and Alba is well known. Many see Inter Miami’s latest action as an effort to make room for Suarez this summer.
Inter Miami announced that they have “acquired an international roster slot from the San Jose Earthquakes in exchange for $150,000 in 2023 General Allocation Money (GAM).”

The MLS clubs are allotted a set number of slots for foreign players. Teams are permitted to trade slots reserved for foreign footballers with other clubs in exchange for monetary compensation. Inter Miami had already filled all available places and were obliged to purchase one more to fit Luis Suarez on the team.
Luis Suarez currently plays for the Brazilian club Gremio. He had joined Gremio on a free transfer earlier this year. In 30 appearances for the Brazilian team, the 36-year-old has already scored 13 goals.
For six years, Luis Suarez shared the Barcelona changing room with Lionel Messi. Suarez and Messi, together with Brazilian superstar Neymar, created a lethal trio that led Barcelona to unprecedented success. Suarez helped Barcelona win one Champions League and four La Liga titles during his time there.

The MLS transfer window will shut on August 2nd. Inter Miami will need to devise an expedient strategy to accomplish Suarez’s transfer before the deadline.
