Lewis Hamilton Gives Much-Awaited Mercedes Contractual Deadlock Update

The Silver Arrows luminary said that his attorneys are dealing with the negotiations on his behalf while he is focusing on racing.

Lewis Hamilton is currently in talks with Mercedes boss Toto Wolff regarding his F1 future with the team. The contract negotiations between the Briton and Silver Arrows have been going on for a considerable time, however, with little success. Reports suggesting ends of the spectrum have been coming week in and week out. Earlier this season, certain sources even went up to the extent of pushing Hamilton to Ferrari. It was, however, disregarded by the Briton himself.

Though team boss Toto Wolff and Hamilton himself have repeatedly assured the intent of putting pen to paper soon, the inevitable delay has raised some eyebrows. The underperformance of W-14 has also reportedly been a point of contention between the team and the driver. Notably, the duo of Silver Arrows and Hamilton has been the most successful driver-team duo in the history of F1.

Now, after a few strong weekends under the belt, the development of Mercedes seems to get back on track. Though there has been strong competition from Hamilton’s former team McLaren, car performance is unlikely to cause any further deadlock.

Lewis Hamilton is not a part of Mercedes’s negotiations anymore

Toto Wolff in Budaoest said that the two parties have agreed on the terms of the contract. Moreover, he added that the contract is already signed emotionally, even if not physically. However, in his recent interview, the 7-time world champion said he is no longer a part of these contract talks. The Silver Arrows luminary said that his attorneys are dealing with the negotiations on his behalf while he is focusing on racing.

“Honestly, I just don’t have any more information for you to share this week. It’s with the lawyers, back and forth. I’ve not been a part of it the whole time,” said Lewis Hamilton as reported by Mirror.co.uk.

“I’ve been removed from it from the beginning. I wanted to be able to focus on all the other things that I have going on. The team is working on it in the background. There’s no negotiation left, it’s just all the small bits,” added the 38-year-old.

After a strong weekend in Hungary including a 104th pole position, Hamilton will look to make the most of the upcoming Spa weekend. It will, however, be interesting to see how soon the two parties put pen to paper and extend this overachieving relationship.
