Hafeez & Latif ‘not interested’, PCB struggles to find chief selector ahead of Asia Cup

Like BCCI in the past, PCB is also struggling to lure in big names for chief selector's role. Both Rashid Latif and Mohammad Hafeez have refused offers while Moeen Khan is reluctant.

The musical chair of Pakistan cricket’s selection committee continues. While Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants a big star cricketer to become the chief selector ahead of Asia Cup 2023 & World Cup 2023, there is no taker. Two former stars Mohammad Hafeez and Rashid Latif have refused PCB’s offer. The only star player left at the moment on PCB’s radar is Moeen Khan. The position has been vacant since Haroon Rasheed relinquished the position. Even Shahid Afridi filled in the position temporarily.

Mohammad Hafeez who is still playing cricket in ZimAfro T10 League refused to take up the role. Instead, he wants to continue working in the grassroots level.

The other star cricketer who is on Pakistan Cricket’s radar is Moeen Khan. However, he is reluctant to take up the role because of his son Azam Khan. He believes that Azam’s performance may come under heavy scrutiny if he accepts the offer. but PCB is yet to approach him for a discussion.

With Asia Cup 2023 is beginning August 30 and World Cup 2023 on October 5, PCB is desperate to find a top player who can select a good squad. Like the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), PCB too wants a modern-minded player to become chief selector. With an ICC event every year, Pakistan want to end the trophy drought as well.

After Sri Lanka series, Pakistan will play a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka. It will help both teams get ready for Asia Cup.
