The incident occurred in the 34th over of the innings. Harmanpreet looked in fine touch finding a couple of boundaries early in her stay at the crease. Nahida Akhter got one to deceive the Indian captain and appealed for an LBW. The umpire signals out, leaving Harmanpreet furious. The India captain signalled that she had hit the delivery but with no DRS there was no respite.
Fuming, Harmanpreet hit the stumps with her bat. She further showcased her discontent to the umpire by gesturing towards her bat. The video of the incident went viral on social media with little support for Kaur. Many believed her actions were against the spirit of the game.
Later, at the post-match presentation, she minced now words. Harmanpret Kaur slammed umpires, saying on the next tour, India would need to prepare for poor umpiring as well.
“I think a lot of learning for us from the game. Even apart from the cricket, the kind of umpiring that was happening we were very surprised. The next time we come to Bangladesh we will make sure we have to deal with this type of umpiring and prepare ourselves accordingly,” Harmanpreet Kaur said.
However, India captain acknowledged Bangladesh’ batting and bowling as India failed to chase down 225.
“They batted really well, batted according to the situation. They were taking those singles which were very crucial. In between we leaked a few runs but we controlled the game very well when we were batting but as I mentioned earlier some pathetic umpiring was done we are really disappointed about some decisions given by the umpires,” she added.
