Rohit & Jaiswal Go on RAMPAGE, India ADOPTS ‘Bazball’ against West Indies

Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal continue to hammer West Indies as India Adopts Bazball style of play

‘Bazball’ is something that cricket fans associate with the English cricket team. But it was the India Cricket Team that adopted this aggressive style of batting against West Indies in the second Test match. Batting first India went on to get a strong start via skipper Rohit Sharma and destructive young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.

After a rather decent start, the duo picked up the pace and went on to go on the onslaught against their Caribbean counterparts. The opening duo slammed 14 boundaries (11 fours and 3 sixes) to bring up the 100-run stand.

Rohit and Jaiswal were careful not to throw away early wickets as they comfortably scored 41 runs in the opening 10 overs. But all hell broke loose when the duo went on to reach 99 runs in the next 20 deliveries. The duo brought up the 100-run opening stand in the 21st over, which is something that teams now do in ODIs.

Rohit Sharma reached his fifty in spectacular fashion as he hit a massive six over deep mid-wicket. He hit 5 fours and 2 huge sixes to reach his half-century. Yashasvi Jaiswal was however no different, the youngster, only playing his second Test match showcased his aggressive batting style and his prowess of hitting shots comfortably on the on side.

8 fours, 1 six, and Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered his fifty in 49 balls. After a majestic debut in the previous game where he scored 171 runs, the 21-year-old continued his impressive form.

India opening pairs with most consecutive century stands:
3 – Virender Sehwag & Murali Vijay (2008-09)
2 – Sunil Gavaskar & Farokh Engineer (1973-74)
2 – Sunil Gavaskar & Anshuman Gaikwad (1976)
2 – Sunil Gavaskar & Arun Lal (1982)
2 – Sadagoppan Ramesh & Devang Gandhi (1999)
2 – Rohit Sharma & Yashasvi Jaiswal (2023)

Though India has often played aggressive Test innings, but after a rather pacified and slow batting against West Indies in the previous game, this new avatar of Bazball style batting for the Indians did surely keep the fans excited by providing them with a breath of fresh air.
