KL Rahul CONTINUES training at NCA, EAGER to return to Squad ahead of Asia Cup

KL Rahul continues his preparation at the NCA as LSG keeper is keen to return to the India squad ahead of Asia Cup

Indian wicket-keeping batter KL Rahul continues his fitness program at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Eyeing to make a comeback to the India Squad for the World Cup, Rahul is keen to don the gloves again and keep behind the wickets. Having resumed his batting practice this week, KL Rahul showcased his practice regime on social media.

The Lucknow Super Giants skipper posted a video on social media that showcased him getting ready to sweat it out in training. At the nets, KL was spotted playing a wide variety of shots. The 31-year-old seemed aggressive on his batting shots as he went down the track a couple of times to hit some towering sixes.

Not only batting KL Rahul also spend quite some time at the gym where he was seen training with weights and barbells. He finished his rigorous training routine with some football juggling and then ended the session with an ice bath session.

There is very little chance that KL Rahul will be fit for the upcoming India tour of Ireland. However, he should be fit before the Asia Cup and is therefore eyeing a return to the squad.

With Rishabh Pant not being available, KL Rahul will don the wicketkeeper’s role as he is the designated keeper for the ODIs. Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson however remain as backups for the team.

“The idea was to have Rahul, Shreyas and Jasprit back for Ireland series. It would have helped them get back in the groove. But we are not sure yet if Shreyas and Rahul will be fit by then. We have time. We will see how they progress. They should be fit for Asia Cup if everything goes well. As for Jasprit, we are very hopeful he can come back for Ireland series,” a senior BCCI official informed InsideSport.
