Manchester United RESIGN defender Jonny Evans

Before their friendly against Lyon, Manchester United resigns defender Jonny Evans, who will travel with the team.

Jonny Evans has been re-signed by Manchester United on a temporary basis following Leicester City exit. The Northern Irishman is qualified to participate in the forthcoming preseason games for Manchester United.

The 35-year-old Evans was re-signed by the team, according to a statement. Following his departure from Leicester City at the conclusion of the 2022–23 season, he had trained with the club’s Under-21 team.

Evans has reportedly pleased Erik ten Hag and other coaches and has participated in first-team practices, according to the statement. Evans signed a short-term deal after Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bennett, two defenders, suffered injuries. He is now able to participate in forthcoming exhibition games.

He will likely play in their forthcoming friendly match against Lyon at Murrayfield in Edinburgh. It is right before the club’s academy departs on a preseason trip in San Diego. Due to injuries, both defenders Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bennett will be unable to go to Scotland and the USA in the near future.

Evans joined United for the first time as a young person in 2004. Later, under Sir Alex Ferguson, he made his breakthrough, playing 198 times for the Red Devils’ first team. During his debut season at Old Trafford, the trusty defender won three Premier League championships and the Champions League in 2008.

Before leaving for West Brom in 2015, Evans played for United under Ferguson’s successors David Moyes and Louis van Gaal. He went to Leicester after three seasons at the Hawthorns, where he helped the Foxes win the FA Cup in 2021.

Due to a calf injury, Evans missed much of the previous season. He was only able to make 13 Premier League appearances, but he was able to get back in shape in time to play for captain Dean Smith’s team in the last three games.

Whether Evans will stay at United for a longer period of time is not yet known. Although Everton and Celtic have been extensively linked to him, he will play for United against Lyon for the first time since 2015.

On July 19, United plays Lyon in Edinburgh, the team’s first match in Scotland in 13 years.
