Asia Cup 2023 Schedule on Wednesday: All eyes on IND vs PAK fixture

India could play Pakistan four times in Asia Cup. All matches will be played in Sri Lanka.

Asia Cup 2023: The much-anticipated schedule of Asia Cup will likely be released on Wednesday and as expected India vs Pakistan fixture is making the headlines. The two arch-rivals will lock horns two times in the Continental Cup. Both the games are expected to take place at Dambulla or Kandy in Sri Lanka. India vs Pakistan fixture could be played a third time if both teams make it to the later stages of the Asia Cup 2023 tournament.

The two arch-rivals could also meet for the fourth time if both teams make it to the finals. After a lot of deliberation, PCB agreed to the hybrid model. Four matches will take place in Pakistan, and the rest of the nine matches will be played in Sri Lanka. Pakistan will kick start Asia Cup 2023 campaign by playing against Nepal on August 31 in Multan. Lahore will also serve as another location for the Continental Cup.

Asia Cup 2023: India vs Pakistan mega clash on September 2 and 10, ACC to have the final say on the proposed itinerary

After playing Nepal, Pakistan will face India on September 2, with the second clash taking place on September 10. If the proposed itinerary is accepted by ACC, Babar Azam & Co will depart for Sri Lanka after playing their opening match against Nepal on August 31. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will play their group matches in Pakistan, before leaving for the Island nation. India will directly depart to Sri Lanka. 

The Asia Cup 2023 will likely start on August 31 to September 17. This year’s Continental Cup will be played in an ODI format with six teams India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal competing. Earlier, PCB chief Najam Sethi had no obligation in the hybrid model, but things went downhill after Ashraf took charge as the new PCB chief.

Ashraf did not the like idea of playing only four games in Pakistan and the remaining nine matches in Sri Lanka during the Asia Cup. However, both parties have now sorted the matter and have agreed to the hybrid model. According to the Asian Cricket Council, Pakistan will now host four Asia Cup matches.

Meanwhile, PCB’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), Salman Naseer, has been named Asia Cup’s tournament director.
