India Receives Boost Ahead of World Cup 2023, Shreyas Iyer begins net Practice

Team India recieves a major boost in their Squad as Shreyas Iyer begins net practice at the NCA

Back for the ICC ODI World Cup 2023? Highly Probable. Back for Asia Cup 2023? Doubtful. India’s middle order Shreyas Iyer has begun his practice at the National Cricket Academy. Iyer who had surgery on his back after suffering a stress fracture is now on the road to recovery.

But this is good news for the Indian team. With quite a few absentees in the likes of KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant, Iyer’s return to training and batting in the nets is a very good sign for the Men in Blue.

Rohit Sharma and Co receive a big boost if Shreyas Iyer can continue his rehab and return to full fitness in the coming months. He will surely be in contention for the ICC World Cup 2023 squad but the likes of the Asia Cup or the Asian Games in China are doubtful.

It is a big relief for the BCCI’s Medical Team who were initially of the opinion that Iyer might not be fit for the World Cup. However, now that the 28-year-old is back on the pitch and continuing his road to recovery he will surely likely be in contention for the mega event if he attains fitness in time.

Iyer who underwent surgery on his back missed the all-important ICC WTC Finals in England. He is also missing the India Tour of West Indies.

As for Bumrah, there is still uncertainty over whether he will be fit for Ireland tour. However, if he does, he will be on the plane to Ireland. The NCA wants to increase his fitness step by step. It will be helpful for him if he increases his workload from four overs to 10 overs slowly.
