Emeran, a 20-year-old French youth international, took advantage of a perceptive pass from Isak Hansen-Aaroen, a Norwegian attacker. In the closing seconds of the game, centre-back Rhys Bennett hit the woodwork. Mason Mount, who was signed from Chelsea for £55 million ($70m) a week earlier, made his first appearance for United in this match.

At halftime, United’s coach, Ten Hag, made significant changes to the entire team, fielding a youthful lineup. Lisandro Martinez, who had been sidelined due to a metatarsal fracture since April, made his return to the field.

Raphael Varane served as the captain and partnered with Martinez to form a solid defensive display. Man United dominated the early stages of the game, with 20-year-old Tunisia midfielder Hannibal Mejbri coming close to scoring but being denied by goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson from close range.
