On Saturday, young Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw claimed he could not bat like Cheteshwar Pujara and supported his aggressive style of play. Shaw further added that Pujara can’t bat like him.
Shaw’s career has had a collapse after a promising beginning, and he has fallen in India’s pecking order.
The 23-year-old, though, is confident in his naturally “aggressive” style of play and stated that he must score runs to regain his spot in the national team.
In July 2021 at Colombo, Shaw made his last appearance for India in a T20I match against Sri Lanka.

What did Prithvi Shaw say?
With only 106 runs in 8 games for Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2023, Prithvi Shaw had a terrible season and was benched as a result of his bad performances.
In the Duleep Trophy semifinal match against Central Zone, Shaw made his post-IPL comeback but only managed scores of 26 and 25 in two innings. He spoke with media after the game, discussed his terrible performance, and acknowledged that he needs to play “smarter.”
Personally, I believe I don’t need to alter my strategy, only become a little smarter than I am. Shaw was cited by PTI as saying, “I can’t bat like Pujara sir bats, and Pujara sir can’t bat like me.”
“I don’t like to change the aggressive batting style, for instance, so that is what I am attempting to accomplish,” he added.
Prithvi Shaw argued that although “everything is going opposite” in limited-overs games, he is still confident in his red ball form.
“Ever since I scored 370 (379 vs. Assam) in red-ball cricket last year, everything has been going well. I feel like everything with white ball, especially the IPL, is going the other way. You only have 20 overs to consider your batting strategy. I have conversations with Sourav Ganguly, Ricky Ponting, and Praveen Amre (all of the Delhi Capitals).”
But red ball cricket is when you are put to the test and demonstrate your ability to go to a higher level, Shaw concluded.
