The 61-year old Ravi Shastri posted a picture of him sitting at the Centre court. He tweeted, “First Saturday, packed centre court, closed roof and a Grand Slam winner on view. Special as always Wimbledon.”
England’s Sam Curran meanwhile was at the Royal Box to witness the action.
Centre Court’s roof was closed before the start of play as rain wreaked havoc. Alcaraz was in action for the second successive day after defeating Alexandre Muller in straight games yesterday in the second round.
Ravi Shastri has been a regular visitor at the Wimbledon. Last year, he watched the semifinal clash between Novak Djokovic and Cameron Norrie. He was also present at the Centre Court during the final between Djokovic and Matteo Berrettini in 2021. Shastri was the head coach of the Indian Men’s team back then.
Recently, Shastri was part of the commentary panel for the World Test Championships Final between India and Australia that was played at The Oval, London. India lost the match by 209 runs as Australia went on to win the Test championship for the first time.
Sam Curran meanwhile is currently playing for Surrey in the Vitality T20 Blast. He is not part of the ongoing Ashes side. His last Test appearance was way back in 2021. However he is a regular in the England’s white-ball set-up and last played for the side during their tour to Bangladesh in March.
