This is Ortiz-Stanionis’ third postponement. Before Stanionis, 28, needed an urgent appendectomy in Lithuania in January, the bout between two of ESPN’s top five welterweights was scheduled for March 18. When Ortiz, 25, experienced a relapse of rhabdomyolysis, the fight was postponed a second time from its original date of April 29.

Fans commented on the post showing concern for the fighter’s recovery as they comments, “It can’t be healthy if you keep trying to supress your weight like that… I hope he feels better soon and maybe no more welter weight…”

After receiving a protracted COVID diagnosis, Ortiz (19-0, 19 KOs) told ESPN in May that he had healed from rhabdomyolysis. However, sources told ESPN that Ortiz struggled to make weight for this bout.

Rhabdomyolysis is the process by which injured muscle tissue releases its proteins and electrolytes into the blood, according to the Centres for Disease Control. These drugs have the potential to kill you or permanently disable your heart and kidneys.

Ortiz, the third-ranked welterweight on ESPN, stopped Michael McKinson in the ninth round in August and hasn’t fought again. Additionally, he had victories over Egidijus “Mean Machine” Kavaliauskas and Maurice Hooker.

ESPN ranks Stanionis as the No. 5 welterweight (14-0, 5 KOs). The career-best victory for Stanionis, who is coached by Hall of Famer Freddie Roach, came in an April 2022 decision victory over Radzhab Butaev.
