Osasuna KICKED OUT of Europa Conference League for match-fixing scandal

Osasuna said in a statement it will appeal the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Spanish football club Osasuna has been removed from the Europa Conference League by UEFA following their involvement in match-fixing a decade ago. As a result, the LaLiga team will not be able to participate in any European competitions for the upcoming season.

The decision by the UEFA Appeals Committee disregarded the allegations presented by Osasuna last Friday in relation to match-fixing allegations in two matches in the 2013-2014 season.

The investigation conducted by UEFA was triggered by a Supreme Court ruling which found Osasuna guilty of match-fixing in two games. The former board of directors from that period is facing charges of misappropriation, false documentation, sporting corruption, and accounting offenses.

In consequence of the Appeals Committee’s decision to exclude Osasuna from the 2023-2024 Conference League, Athletic Bilbao will take their place in the European competition, as they were the next team in the league standings of the previous season.

Osasuna said in a statement it will appeal the ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

“Club Atlético Osasuna does not share UEFA’s criteria nor the investigation carried out in the case and regrets the negative message that UEFA sends to the football world by penalizing those who expose corruption and pursue it legally”.

“Finally, Club Atlético Osasuna will continue to utilize all available legal means to confront UEFA and put an end to what it considers to be a serious violation of its rights”, club said in a statement.
