WATCH Roger Federer get standing ovation as he returns to Wimbledon

Roger Federer made his return to the Wimbledon for the first time since his retirement on Tuesday, 4th July 2023. He was given a rousing reception from the crowd at the centre court.

Roger Federer made his return to the Wimbledon for the first time since his retirement on Tuesday, 4th July 2023. The eight-time champion at the prestigious tournament made his way into the Centre Court amidst a rousing reception. He was given a standing ovation as he made his way to the Royal Box before play began on Day 2.

Federer’s appearance to the centre court marked a special celebratory moment. The Swiss legend was honoured as the man holding the most Wimbledon titles. Sporting a biege suit, the 20-time Grand Slam champion waved to the crowd as he entered the court.

Leading the applause was the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. Federer entered the Royal Box and took the seat next to the Princess. The Swiss legends’s wife Mirka was also seen. The ovation and applause went on for more than a minute as Federer waved to the crowd.

A video montage of his performance over the years at Wimbledon from 2003 was played earlier. The film captured Federer’s glittering Wimbledon career. He last played at the All England Club in 2021, where he lost in the quarterfinal against Hubert Hurkacz.

It became his last professional match in his career. He soon suffered a knee injury and was out of action for more than a year before he announced his retirement and played played his farewell match at the Laver Cup in London last September. Federer however was present at the Wimbledon last year during the 100-year celebrations at the Centre Court.
