Ravi Ashwin CALLS for PROPER subs when Players have muscle tears after Lyon Injury fiasco

Ravichandran Ashwin has called for proper substituions when a player has muscle tear after Nathan Lyon Injury fiasco

With the game of cricket implementing some serious changes in its gameplay, veteran, and ace Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has claimed that similar to concussion substitutes, there should also be substitutes that should be allowed to play if a player suffers muscle tears. The Indian all-rounder explained that having these useful subs will be very beneficial in making the game an even contest especially when Test matches continue for 5 days.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s comments came after Austrian spinner Nathan Lyon had a calf strain. Despite his injury, Lyon hobbled into the crease to bat, thereby raising concerns among many cricketers and cricketing fans.

Ravichandran Ashwin took to social media to voice out his concern. He wrote, “Tight finish on the cards here. What a series👏👏 #Ashes2023

Food for thought: Australia could have shut this game down with Nathan Lyon doing his thing from one end, it’s probably time to look at substitutions for muscle tears just like concussion subs. A like for like replacement will mean an even contest, especially for a format that lasts 5 days.

As far as Nathan Lyon’s injury is concerned, the Aussie bowler is potentially ruled out of the remainder of the Ashes 2023 tournament. “I wasn’t particularly happy but he was pretty keen to get out there. He did an amazing job. I would imagine he is (out of the series)” said Australia skipper Pat Cummins after the conclusion of the Lord’s Test.

Substitutions are quite common in all sports and cricket. In cricket concussion substitutions are common. If a player has a head injury and needs attention, then the player can be rested while the 12th man comes on as a concussion substitution.

Now Ashwin has claimed that if proper substitutions are allowed when a player experiences muscle tear, then it will be an even playing ground with Test matches going on for 5 days.
