ENG vs AUS 2nd Test: Ashes 2023: Australia’s Nathan Lyon showcased unwavering courage and commitment as he came out to bat despite an injury during the second Test of the Ashes series at Lord’s on Saturday. The 35-year-old received a standing ovation from the Lord’s crowd as he walked towards the middle.
Notably, Lyon suffered serious calf injury on Day 2 and was ruled out of the Test match on Friday but the veteran spinner returned to the crease to extend the lead, earning a well-deserved standing ovation from the crowd at the Home of Cricket.
Earlier on Friday, Lyon’s picture on arriving at the cricket ground on crutches went viral and put doubts over his ability to participate in the remainder of the series.
Cricket Australia later confirmed the severity of Lyon’s injury and ruled him out of the ongoing Test. However, they refrained from ruling him out for the rest of the series.
Meanwhile, Australia has taken a commanding position in the 2nd Test after setting a 371-run target for the home side. After taking a 91-run lead in the first innings, the visitors were bowled out for 279 in their second innings, taking a healthy 370-run lead.
