World Cup 2023 squad Selection headache for selectors, Shreyas & KL Rahul likely, Sanju & SKY fight for a spot

India will host the ICC 2023 World Cup this year and the pressure will be on the Men in Blue to repat the antics of 2011.

The preparations for the World Cup 2023 have already begun with all camps thinking about the top composition of their team before the mega event starts in October this year. The hosts are also under immense pressure and the BCCI officials must be feeling it as well before they announce the Indian squad for 2023 WC. One of the main challenge for the selectors will be to decide the combination of the middle-order.

With Kohli coming to bat 1st down, the Men in Blue need another two solid batters after Kohli. Seasoned all-rounder Hardik Pandya is set to play the role as a finisher. Team India might go with KL Rahul as their wicketkeeper-batter. However, Sanju Samson is expected to give him a tough fight. To note, Samson has good numbers while playing for the Men in Blue in 50-over format.

The 28-year-old averages 66 with a strike rate of 104. He has amassed 330 runs in ten innings. Samson has also stroked half-centuries. Apart from these numbers, any person with cricket sense knows that Samson can win the match single-handedly on his day. He has brute strength and plays the spin equally well as pace.

It might be a tough one for the selectors to choose between Shreyas Iyer and Suryakumar Yadav. The former has some astonishing numbers as compared to Surya. Iyer averages 46.6 with a strike rate of almost 100 and has two centuries to his name. However, he has been grappled with injuries.

On the other hand, Yadav has got not so much to show in his ODI career. However, can you keep a player like Suryakumar out of the team? The right-handed batter plays at an aggressive template which might help India to put some quick runs in the middle overs.

The formula has been successful for the likes of England and Australia who keep the scoring rate up even in middle stages of the batting and have been successful in the white-ball format.
