‘I can score big runs in this series’, West Indies batter issues warning to India ahead of Test Series

Aggressive West Indies middle order batsman has issued a warning to India ahead of the Test series, claiming that he is confident that he can score big against the Rohit Sharma-led side.

IND vs WI: West Indies middle order batter Jermaine Blackwood has said that he is confident he can rack up big runs in the upcoming Test series against India. Blackwood has said that he has been working hard and has changed his mindset to improve his batting. The 31-year-old has been honing his skills by playing in local competitions at home. The hard-hitting right-hander is eager to prove himself in the Test arena once again when he takes up the field on July 12.

The last time West Indies played India in a Test series, India thumped the hosts, winning both matches. The diminutive batter played just one inning on India’s last tour of the West Indies, coming in as a concussion substitute. The aggressive batter managed to score 38 runs in his single outing at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica.

“I am pretty confident now, but the last time I played against India I didn’t score the runs that I wanted. This time around I am in a different space because I have been putting in a lot of work and hopefully, I can score big runs in this series,” Blackwood said, as quoted by Jamaica Gleaner.

The West Indies have played four matches so far this year and have a 2-1 losing record. Blackwood last played a Test match against South Africa in March and has a below-par average of 30 in the four matches he has played this year. Despite the West Indies losing their last series against South Africa, Blackwood believes the Windies have played well in the last two series and can put up a great fight against one of the most successful teams in the last decade, India.

“For the past two years we have been playing some good cricket and this year, we want to take it up a notch. India is one of the top teams in the world, but we have to put up a good fight and we have players who can do that,” Blackwood added.

The West Indies and India will compete in two Test matches as part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship cycle. The first Test will be played in Windsor Park, Dominica, from July 12–16, while the second Test will be played at Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad, from July 20–24.
