Rare Opportunity for Samson before WC, RR captain gets ODI recall

If Sanju Smason is able to seize opportunity vs WI, he could very well be in the Indian squad for the World Cup 2023.

Ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023, a rare golden opportunity has knocked on the door of Sanju Samson. The Rajasthan Royals wicket-keeper is prepared to make a comeback during India Tour of West Indies. The RR captain, who missed the series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand has been picked for the ODI squad against the Men in Maroon.

Samson is prepared to receive ample opportunities in the absence of some of the team’s veteran players despite frequently being in and out of the starting lineup. If Sanju Smason is able to seize this opportunity vs WI, he could very well be in the Indian squad for the World Cup 2023.

Sanju Samson: The one that got away?

Samson last participated in a T20I match against Sri Lanka before suffering a hamstring injury. After that, the RR player participated in the IPL but had a poor performance, scoring only 360 runs in 13 innings. The wicketkeeper batter will be eager to play and use his opportunities against West Indies.

Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan will have plenty of opportunities now that Rishabh Pant will not be playing for the side at least until the end of 2023. The Kerala batter will probably be considered for the ODI team in addition to T20Is.

Insidesport

And there are high chances that Sanju Samson could play in the 50-over format vs WI as a wicketkeeper hitter because KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are injured.

Samson is expected to be given a longer leash in the ODI and T20 teams since so many players are suffering from injuries. And this WI tour is absolutely the best time for BCCI to test the back-up options ahead of the much-awaited WC 2023.
