Ciryl Gane is a former interim UFC heavyweight champion and one of the most skilled strikers in the division. However, in his last title bout against Jon Jones, the Frenchman could not compete with the American’s superior wrestling and lost in two minutes. In the aftermath of the loss, Khabib Nurmagomedov invited Gane to Russia to improve his wrestling.

Ciryl Gane rejects Khabib Nurmagomedov’s offer. Here’s why

Gane will return to the octagon in September to face Sergey Spivac. And in the light of his return, the Frenchman spoke to Mirror fighting. Speaking about Khabib’s offer, Gane said, “This is really kind of him, but I have another job and that’s to be a father” He then added, “I have two daughters and this is a big job, people underestimate this. To leave my family for six months for me impossible”

Gane then said that when he is away for two-three weeks, his family misses him. Moreover, he also confirmed that he was willing to bring high-level wrestlers and grapplers to his training camp. Thus, these comments from Gane showed that he appreciates the offer, but he does not fancy staying away from his family. Even just for a fight camp.

Ciryl Gane teases retirement

In the same interview, Gane made a very surprising statement. The Frenchman said he wanted to follow in the footsteps of Conor McGregor and Khabib by planning for life after fighting. He pointed out that he won’t be fighting for 30 years and he has to think about life after the octagon.

Gane also referenced the speed at which his MMA career progressed and, therefore, is now taking it slow. This is definitely not a retirement hint from the Frenchman. However, it shows he has re-evaluated his career ahead of his next fight.
