Pat Cummins scored an unbeaten 44 runs off 73 balls and scripted a terrific win over rivals England. After losing a plot a bit in the middle overs, skipper Cummins found an able company in Nathan Lyon, and got the job done.
As soon as the Australia skipper hit the winning runs, Twitter erupted and termed a new term for Cummins – ‘Cumball’ The visitors started day five needing 174 runs with seven wickets in hand. Usman Khawaja got a gritty fifty, but then could not close the game.
However, Cummins came out with a clear intention and started to attack from word go. The right-hand batter stitched a crucial 55 runs partnership with Lyon and enabled Australia to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Ashes 2023: Ben Stokes does not regret of early declaration on day one of Edgbaston Test
After England’s close loss, fingers were pointed towards Ben Stokes for the early declaration he made on day one the Ashes Test. Joe Root was going strong on one end after scoring a sublime hundred, but Stokes felt 393 runs were enough on board.
When quizzed during post match conference Stokes stuck his guns and said, “I thought that was a time to pounce,” Stokes said. ”I am not going to change the way I have gone about my cricket because it is the Ashes.
“Who knows? We could have got an extra 40 runs or lost two wickets in two balls. I am not a captain who gets by on what ifs.
“We saw it as an opportunity to pounce on Australia and really start day two on top.”
Fans were also up in arms about Stokes’ fateful decision on day one.
