BCCI refuses to GRANT Pakistan’s wish, PAK vs AFG World Cup 2023 match in Chennai despite PCB’s objection

BCCI has refused to acknowledge PCB's request to the ICC to change venues. Pakistan Cricket team has revealed that they are not comfortable facing Afghanistan in Chennai

World Cup 2023: The ongoing tension between the BCCI and the PCB see the two apex cricketing bodies at crossroads. The Pakistan team and the Pakistan Cricket board has objected to facing Afghanistan in a spin friendly track at Chennai. But the Board of Control for Cricket in India has paid no need Pakistan’s wishes and have waived off the idea.

Prior to the release of the World Cup 2023 schedule, the ICC had asked suggestions and recommendations from the PCB regarding their itinerary for the World Cup schedule. It has been there when PCB raised objections that they are not comfortable to face Afghanistan in Chennai.

“The PCB sent the tentative itinerary for the team to the selectors/experts who apparently are not comfortable with some of the Pakistan team’s scheduled matches and venues like they have reservations on Pakistan playing Afghanistan in Chennai and Australia at Bengaluru,” PTI reported.

But the BCCI has been adamant and stern in their approach and have dismissed the requests made by PCB to ICC. The apex cricket body in India is unwilling to make any changes to the proposed schedule.

“The suggestion is to ask the ICC/BCCI to reschedule Pakistan’s matches and play Afghanistan in Bengaluru and Australia in Chennai to the team’s strength,” the source claimed.

However, a BCCI source said the ICC asking members for suggestions on the itinerary is part of the protocol and there has to be a strong reason for the venues to be changed. “A member board can push for a venue change due to safety reasons like Pakistan did in 2016 when they travelled India for the T20 World Cup. If you start expressing reservations over a venue as per your team’s strengths and weaknesses on the field, then it becomes very tough to finalise the schedule.
