According to an announcement by Joseph Setley, Senior Director of Social Media and Content Strategy at Top Rank, the promotion company will now provide fight updates and other exclusive content directly to fans on WhatsApp. The service launched first in Colombia and Singapore but is expected to roll out worldwide soon.

This deal signals Meta’s ambitious expansion into sports and entertainment. The announcement comes amid rising tensions between Top Rank’s main competitor, Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, and streaming service DAZN. Top Rank had previously been aligned with ESPN but this new partnership provides an alternative avenue to promote its fights to a global audience.

For Meta, the Top Rank deal highlights the company’s desire to make WhatsApp a destination not just for messaging but for business and entertainment. By partnering with brands and media companies, Meta can transform WhatsApp into a platform to deliver content and services while also generating new revenue streams through business messaging and commerce.

The boxing world will be watching closely to see how this unexpected partnership between tech giant Meta and boxing heavyweight Top Rank unfolds and the kind of unique experiences they build together on WhatsApp. This could be a glimpse into the future of how brands leverage messaging apps to engage their fans and customers.
