Daniel Cormier Explains His Stance on Jim Miller and Donald Cerrone’s Hall of Fame Inductions
Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, a former WEC and UFC lightweight fighter, was announced as a member of the UFC Hall of Fame a few months ago. For those who don’t know, the highly anticipated 2023 UFC Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, presented by Toyo Tires, will be held on July 6th at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
On his ESPN show DC and RC, Cormier thinks despite Miller has most wins record in the UFC it isn’t good enough to make it into the UFC Hall of Fame. Adding to that, Cormier also shared his thoughts on Cerrone’s induction, saying that he doesn’t think the level of competition he faced wasn’t as high as that of champions. (from 44:00)
He stated, “Jim Miller never was in the top five. He was never in the top 10. I love Jim Miller. I love everything he’s accomplished, but at one point ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone – who, by the way, I don’t think should be in the Hall of Fame – was the all-time wins leader. Andrei Arlovski at one point was the all-time wins leader.”
DC added, “He will be in the Hall of Fame. But in his all-time wins, his longevity also coupled with his championship and all that, that puts him in. I don’t hate Jim, but Jim has a record that at some point can be broken. And here’s another thing Ryan, Israel Adesanya, Alexander Volkanovski, Aljamain Sterling, those guys will never hold the wins record. You want to know why? Because they’re fighting the best of the best.”
Ryan Clark shared his agreement with DC’s opinion, adding that people often compare potential Hall of Fame inductees to those who are already inducted. However, he emphasized that since Cerrone is going to be a Hall of Famer, Miller deserves to be on the list as well, given his similar accomplishments in the sport.
