Umran Malik to get nod for WI Tour, Test call-up for Arshdeep Singh

Umran Malik: In the absence of Mohammed Shami, Siraj, and Jasprit Bumrah, Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh are likely to make a comeback in ODI and Test teams respectively, for the West Indies tour. Malik, who made his international debut against Ireland last year has played only eight ODIs and eight T20Is since then. However, Malik was part of India’s last white-ball series against New Zealand before the IPL. 

Meanwhile, Arshdeep Singh last featured for India during the New Zealand series. However, the left-arm pacer is likely to be included in the Test team, and not ODIs and T20Is. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) pacer is also gearing up for the Test call-up by playing County Cricket for Kent. Arshdeep’s performance in County Cricket is likely to have a say in when India selectors pick the team for the Caribbean tour.

IND vs WI: Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh aim to make an impact during the West Indies series

In 2022, BCCI had marked Asrhdeep and Umran as the bowlers to look up to in the future. The duo have been given ample chances whenever Bumrah, Siraj, and Shami have not played in the team. With Bumrah not set to return until Asia Cup at least, Malik and Arshdeep are set to get long rope in the team. Siraj and Shami are also expected to be not part of the Test and ODI team.

With three senior pacers not part of the Caribbean tour, it is a good chance for Arshdeep and Malik to cement their place in the team.
