Veteran Ravichandran Ashwin was at his best as he scalped a 2-fer in his first outing of the ongoing TNPL 2023. We cannot compare the quality of International Australian batters with local talents. However, Ashwin was seen at his best as he outfoxed his opponents a number of times in his four-over spell.
To note, the off-spinner might have got his fourth scalp but the decision did not went in his favour as the batter reviewed the call. Despite the 3rd Umpire overturning the decision from Out to Not Out, the veteran had a brief argument with the umpire and then decided to challenge the decision. However, the decision remained the same with Ashwin left in disbelief at that moment.

DD skipper Ashwin said, “We have a good team of youngsters and also senior players like me Varun and Baba. The 120 was too less a target, it was an easy one we just had to build a good partnership. I would have batted but I had a bit of jet lag. See, on the big screen it looked like there was no conclusive evidence so I took the review again just in the hope that from different angles we might get something”
The mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy was the pick of the bowlers for the Dragons as he scalped 3 wickets and gave away just 21 runs in his 4-over spell. “While bowling, I just pay attention to the procedure. I needed to go farther. For the hat trick, we had a strategy, but it didn’t work out. Ashwin’s wickets were really important. I hope to be available,” said Chakravarthy.
