Pep Guardiola: Pep Guardiola’s off-off “romance” with Julia Roberts is finally ON – as she posted her congratulations to Manchester City and Pep Guardiola seven years after breaking his heart. One of Guardiola’s three idols, the Hollywood star, commended Manchester City for winning the Champions League and the Treble despite upsetting him by traveling to Old Trafford rather than the Etihad in 2016. Following their victories in the Premier League and FA Cup, the Pretty Woman actress awarded Guardiola a Ticket to Paradise when his team defeated Inter Milan in the Istanbul final. Following a 7-0 victory against RB Leipzig in March, Guardiola, who is happily married to Cristina Serra, made light of his desires for the Notting Hilla actress.
After Pep Guardiola made history by becoming the first manager in history to win the treble with two different teams, Julia Roberts congratulated his efforts and that of Manchester City. She wrote on Instagram, ‘Congratulations @pepteam for leading your team to be UCL champions. #pep #soccermom.’
Roberts, who had already been in Ocean’s Eleven, was shocked to see that she had made the Spaniard’s Top Three. Guardiola spoke about how he was devastated when he saw Julia Roberts going to Old Trafford to watch a game Manchester United were playing.
Pep Guardiola’s words
While talking about his idols and how he felt seeing Julia Roberts at Old Trafford, Pep Guardiola said, ‘I am a failure in the Champions League. If I win the Champions League three times in a row I will be a failure. I have three idols in my life. Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Julia Roberts. “Julia Roberts years ago came to Manchester – not in the 90s when Sir Alex (Ferguson) was winning titles and titles and titles.’
He continued, ‘She came in the period where we were better than United, in these four or five years, right? And she went to visit Man United. She didn’t come to see us.’
He ended by saying, ‘That’s why even if I win the Champions League it will not compare for the fact that Julia Roberts came to Manchester and didn’t come to see us. Even if I win the Champions League it will not compare to this disappointment I had.’
There has always been a blot on Pep Guardiola’s managerial tenure that he hasn’t won the UEFA Champions League with any other team, other than FC Barcelona. Now, that is not an argument that can be used against the coach of Manchester City.

After this win over Inter Milan, it seems as though his legacy as one of this generation’s best coaches has been cemented. Only he can boast of the fact that he is the only manager to win two trebles with different teams (FC Barcelona in 2008/09 and Manchester City in 2022/23). It will be interesting to see how his team steps up next season now that they have won everything there is to win.
