WTC Final 2023: Star India batter Virat Kohli shared a cryptic Instagram Story after India’s heartbreaking loss against Australia in World Test Championship (WTC) Final on Sunday. Notably, Kohli, who looked solid on Day 4, got caught at slip on 49 after chasing a wide delivery.
Former India captain and legendary player Sunil Gavaskar didn’t hold back after the game and criticised Virat Kohli’s shot selection.
“It was a bad shot, I mean you should ask Virat Kohli, what shot he played because that was shot outside the off-stump. We talk so much about the fact you know when you are going to win a match, you need a long inning, a century plus innings to win, but how will you get to a century plus innings if you play shots so far outside the off-stumps,” Sunil Gavaskar said when asked about the wicket of Virat Kohli.
However, after Gavaskar’s sharp criticism, the former India skipper took to Instagram and shared a quote from Lao Tzu.
“Silence is the source of great strength”, the quote read.
The batting was Shambles: Gavaskar
The former Indian opener also slammed other Indian senior batters for playing rash shots in the middle and called India’s batting display a ‘shambles’.
“The batting was in shambles today. It was just ridiculous what we saw today. The shot making, we saw some pretty ordinary shot yesterday from Pujara. And today some of the shots that we saw. How do you expect a win?” said Gavaskar after the game,
“We didn’t even last a session with this batting line-up with eight wickets in hand. Come on!” he added
Earlier today, Australia defeated India by 209 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC) Final to clinch their ninth ICC title. Pat Cummins and Co. dominated the game from Day 1 after Travis Head and Steve Smith’s century powered them to 469 runs. They then bundled India out for 296 runs, taking a first-innings lead of 173 runs. India made a comeback in the second innings but Australia managed to post 270 for 8, setting a 444-run target for India. The Rohit Sharma-led side was then bowled out for 234 and suffered another heartbreak in the ICC competition.
