All eyes will be on the chase-master Virat Kohli, who is still unbeaten at 44 along with Ajinkya Rahane at 20, with their fourth-wicket partnership totaling 71 off 118 so far. India need another 280 runs to win with seven wickets in hand on the fifth day of the World Test Championship Final against Australia.
After a good and encouraging start from captain Rohit Sharma, India found themselves in trouble after losing both the experienced Cheteshwar Pujara and the captain in the space of six deliveries. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane, however, led India through to stumps on Day 4 without any further difficulties.
However, Kohli’s record on Test Day 5 gives Indian supporters a sense of hope On Day 5, Kohli has accumulated 696 runs at an average of 69.6 and three 100-plus scores in 14 innings. These figures show how effective Kohli is in run-chases. If he succeeds in getting India across the finish line, the record for the highest successful run-chase may be in danger.
With just Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur remaining in the batting lineup after Rahane, who made a stunning comeback and scored 89 runs in the first innings, India will need both of them to continue playing at least till lunch.
