5 Reasons Why Khabib Nurmagomedov Failed To Become a Bigger PPV Star Than Conor McGregor

1. Khabib Nurmagomomedov’s commendable behavior

Despite being one of the most respected athletes in the UFC, Khabib never pulled out a bigger audience than Conor McGregor. During his fights, he maintained a healthy relationship with his opponent. This was a sign of good sportsmanship but not a good sign for selling the PPV. Due to his simple etiquette, many times he failed to hype his bout.

On the other hand, the Eagle didn’t involve himself with trash talks which might have helped him to become a good PPV star. Many fighters in the UFC talk trash before their bout in order to draw fan attention and create a big hype. Unfortunately, Khabib never counted himself into this and maintained a peaceful atmosphere with his opponents except for Conor McGregor.

2. Khabib struggled to reach his fans

In the early days of his career, Khabib struggled with his language. Being an American sport, many fighters speak English in order to engage with the audience. However, Khabib struggled in his initial phase to speak and failed to connect with the audience because of the language barrier. On the other hand, he also struggled to speak in interviews where he failed to share his views.

Later on, he progressed and worked on his English language. This aided him a lot in his further career and octagon interviews as well. In recent times, he appeared in several interviews with the likes of Mike Tyson, Rod Berger, etc.

3. Khabib Nurmagomedov’s early departure from UFC

In 2020, Khabib said his final goodbye to UFC after he defeated Justin Gaethje. That was his last fight in the octagon and was later inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame. With a UFC record of 29-0, Khabib Nurmagomedov dominated the lightweight division. However, many fans are still sad for his early departure at the age of 32.

The list of fighters goes endless and new fighters make their way up in the UFC. Fans expected that the ‘Eagle’ would be a top fighter in the weight class if he stick around for much longer. This would have also made him the GOAT in the UFC.

4. Khabib Nurmagomedov never hunted for better opportunities

After becoming the Undisputed UFC Champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov continued his dominance in the lightweight division. Eventually, he defeated every top fighter in the lightweight division. However, he never jumped to other divisions or transitioned to boxing like Conor McGregor. He continued his momentum and being the dominant fighter in the lightweight which made his championship run dull after McGregor vs Nurmagomedov.

5. Khabib Nurmagomodev never rematched anyone

Many UFC fighters fight each other at least twice to settle their score. However, Khabib never rematched anyone. A rematch fight is much more important to the UFC Fighters to prove their worth as well as fans enjoy the hype created for the rematch. Although UFC President Dana White tried to pull Khabib for a rematch with Conor, the ‘Eagle’ denied it.

Insidesport

Fighters like Kamura Usman, Leon Edwards, Conor McGregor, Nate Diaz, Colby Covington, Julianna Pena, Amanda Nunes, and many more competed with each other at least twice to reach an actual conclusion to their rivalry.
