Kyle Walker, a defender for Manchester City, is optimistic he will be ready for Saturday’s Champions League final despite recently experiencing back pain. In preparation for the match against Inter Milan in Istanbul, the England international sat out Tuesday’s open training session for City.
Walker exited the field toward the end of Saturday’s FA Cup victory over Manchester United and appeared to be in distress. However, the 33-year-old full back stated that he anticipated being able to support City in its quest to win the European Championship for the first time ever.
Walker said, ‘I’m completely fine, it’s just an extra day of recovery. I’ve played a lot of minutes over the last number of weeks so the manager said, ‘Just stay inside and come Saturday you will be raring to go.’ I won’t be missing the Champions League final for anything.’
Pep Guardiola’s words
Walker played a crucial role in City’s semifinal victory over Real Madrid thanks to his superb performance against Vinicius Jr, which saw City win the second leg 4-0.
Guardiola said Walker had been left out of Tuesday’s training session as a precautionary measure. He said, ‘He (Walker) has had a disturbance in his back. Yesterday he was not good, today he was a little bit better, but we didn’t want to take any risks. We will see what happens in the next days.’
