Rohit Sharma: All the focus will be on India skipper Rohit Sharma whether he walks for the toss along with Pat Cummins in the World Test Championship Final (WTC) at Oval. Rohit walked off from the optional practice session yesterday at Oval after suffering a blow on his thumb while batting. While India skipper returned to the nets by having a tape, he could not continue to bat and left the training session after having a word with Rahul Dravid.
IND vs AUS: An update on Rohit playing the WTC final to be made after inspecting his thumb
With already India missing a few stars like Rishabh Pant, Bumrah, and KL Rahul to injuries, India do not need any more setbacks. An update on Rohit Sharma will be made on Wednesday Morning after inspecting his thumb.
As of now reports state that the blow to India skipper is not so serious one. But if it turns out to be serious, then Rohit might miss the summit finale against Australia.
IND vs AUS: Who will lead if Rohit misses out on playing WTC Final due to injury?
If Rohit does not play the WTC Final, then Cheteshwar Pujara will step in as captain. He is the designated vice-captain and should lead India in Rohit’s absence. Pujara might well open the innings along with Shubman Gill. India have able options in the middle order in Ajinkya Rahane and Suryakumar Yadav.
In the opening role, India have Ishan Kishan too. The southpaw has opened in T20Is and ODIs for India. However, India would be hoping Rohit fully recovers from the thumb injury and leads India again for WTC.
Not only the skipper has vast leadership experience, but he is also one of the vital batters in the team. Rohit also had scored a century at the Oval the last time India played against England.
