In the 90th minute, West Ham United defeated Fiorentina 2-1 to win the Europa Conference League championship and win their first significant European title in more than 50 years. Jarrod Bowen scored the game-winning goal.

Lucas Paqueta’s pass to Bowen, who outran the defenders and beat the Fiorentina keeper to the ball, appeared to send the game at Prague’s Eden Arena into extra time.

After winning the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in 1965, they had been without a significant trophy for more than 40 years. With this victory, they have now won a European trophy twice. Additionally, it secures their spot in the Europa League for the next season with a finish of 14th in the Premier League.

Said Benrahma scored a penalty for West Ham in the 62nd minute after a VAR review determined that the Italian team’s captain Cristiano Biraghi had handled the ball. Earlier, Biraghi had sought medical care after being hit in the head by a plastic cup thrown from the stands.

Giacomo Bonaventura collected the ball with two players on him and sent an angled drive past the West Ham custodian five minutes after Fiorentina accelerated the tempo.

Early on, during a rare excursion forward, Declan Rice, who was playing in what is likely to be his farewell match for the club, barely missed with a shot, but otherwise Moyes’ team was mainly confined in their own half as Fiorentina dominated possession.

Tomas Soucek twice came close to scoring for the Hammers, but it was Bowen who would emerge as their hero. The 26-year-old maintained his composure to capitalise on Paqueta’s through pass and past Fiorentina keeper Pietro Terracciano, sending West Ham fans into a state of ecstasy.
