GT got off to a strong start thanks to a 67-run partnership between Shubman Gill (39 in 20 balls) and Wriddhiman Saha. Then Saha and Sai Sudarshan stiched together a 64-run stand. Saha was dismissed for 54 off 39 balls, which included five fours and a six. In just 47 balls, Sudarshan slammed 96 runs with eight fours and six sixes. Together with captain Hardik Pandya, who hit 21 runs off of 12 balls, they shared the third wicket for an 81-run partnership. In four overs, Matheesha Pathirana took 2/44. Each of Ravindra Jadeja and Deepak Chahar took a wicket.
Rain caused a delay of the game. CSK was given a revised goal of 171 runs in 15 overs when play resumed. With a 74-run partnership for the first wicket, openers Devon Conway (47 in 25 balls) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (26 in 16 balls) set the stage. Ajinkya Rahane scored a fast 27 in 13 balls, while Ambati Rayadu scored 19 in 8 balls, but Mohit Sharma’s tight bowling helped GT mount a comeback. Dhoni was dismissed for a golden duck as well. CSK needed 13 runs in the last over. Mohit was unable to hold on as Jadeja’s game-winning four on the last ball denied GT’s victory.
